Exporting a Recreational Boat

When do you need to declare the boat to the Norwegian Customs?

If the value exceeds NOK 5,000 and

  • you plan to transport the boat overseas, you must visit a customs office during opening hours to have an export declaration prepared
  • you plan to transport the boat by road, you must choose a border crossing with a customs office and drive through the red channel during opening hours
  • the boat is being shipped by a freight company, the freight company or a customs broker will handle the export declaration for you
  • you must bring the following documentation to the customs office:

Individuals declaring goods must have a Norwegian national ID number, personal number, or D-number. If you do not have one, you must apply for a TRK number before arriving at the customs office.

When do you not need to declare the boat to Norwegian Customs?

  • If the boat’s value is NOK 5,000 or less, there is no need to declare it to Norwegian Customs for export.
  • If you are a resident of Norway, you may travel abroad with your Norwegian boat without declaring it.
  • Tourists who are visiting Norway with their own boat do not need to declare the boat when returning home.
