Application for assistance from the customs authorities in case of suspicion of infringement of intellectual property rights

The Norwegian Customs Service can detain suspected pirated copies of, among other things, a trademark, design or patent. If, as the owner of such rights, you suspect that they have been infringed, you can send an application for assistance to Norwegian Customs.

New application for assistance

Chapter 15 of the Customs Act on intellectual property rights will be amended from 1 July 2021. From the same date, you apply for assistance in Altinn.

Please note that the Altinn forms are currently only available in Norwegian. However, english guides for the Altinn forms can be found below.

You can find the application form here.

Change/application for extension of list of intellectual property rights for current application

You can:

  • add and change information in the application.
  • add more intellectual property rights.
  • extend existing decisions within 30 business days before the end of the current assistance period.
  • create a new form based on previous submissions. altinn---create-new-form-based-on-previous-submissions.pdfSee description here  (252 kB)(248 kB).

Applications submitted via the old system will apply until expiration and you do not need to do anything related to them.

Application after you have received notification of detention

If you receive a notification of detained goods from Norwegian Customs without having applied for assistance, you can fill in a simplified application. You must apply within four business days after the notification was issued.
