Regarding the Payment of the Excise Duty

Valid forms of payment:
  • Debit card
  • Credit card
  • Bankremisse
  • Cash
Maximum amount valid when paying by debit card is usually 100 000 NOK per payment, but this is a matter between the customer and his/her issuing bank.

Maximum Amount of payment by credit card is a matter between the customer and the card company.

If you choose to pay by credit card you must pay a fee to the credit card company. Credit card fee applies for amounts over 2000 NOK. Credit card fee is from 0.4 to 2.2 percent of the transaction amount depending on the type of credit card.

If you are using a bankremisse this has to be made out to the local custom region. The amount paid can not exceed the amount due as stated on the invoice.


Requirements for a valid receipt when excise duty is paid at the bank/post office or online

  • Payment at the bank/post office: The receipt has to have a dated signature/stamp that validates the payment. The receipt has to confirm that the payment has been debited/withdrawn from/ the customers bank account.
  • Online payments: When the excise duty is paid in the electronic payment system, you have to use the KID number listed on the invoice. A valid receipt requires a oblat in addition to the KID number. Alternatively the receipt has to have a stamp/signature from the bank in addition to the KID number, total amount due, payment date, the customers bank account and the Directorate of customs and excise bank account
